SPQR Shop: Five Years of Steady Growth, Online
An online jewelry store selling Roman and Christian-themed pieces to US and EU customers. Five years running, still growing.
The Background
SPQR Shop makes Roman and Christian-themed jewelry — handmade pieces with historical designs that you can't really find anywhere else. They've been selling to customers in the US and EU for over five years.
The business was growing steadily, but the website hadn't kept up. It worked, but it had five years of patch jobs and workarounds under the hood.
The Challenge
The checkout was clunky, especially for EU customers dealing with shipping and currency differences. Carts were getting abandoned at the payment step. The product pages didn't do the pieces justice — there was no story behind the designs, just a photo and a price.
On the operations side, orders and customer messages were being managed manually. As sales grew, that stopped being sustainable.
The Solution
We rebuilt the store from the ground up:
1. A cleaner shopping experience — better product pages with real context about the history behind each piece, and a checkout that handles international shipping and multiple currencies without friction.
2. Proper back-end operations — automated order tracking, inventory management, and customer communication so the team isn't buried in spreadsheets.
The Results
International conversions went up 85%. EU checkout abandonment dropped 70% — just from making shipping costs clear and adding local payment options.
Average order value climbed 40%. Turns out, when you explain what makes a piece special, people are willing to spend more. Revenue growth hit 120% year-over-year, the best in the shop's history.
The founding team got their time back. Less admin, more designing.
The Accomplishment
• International conversions up 85% • EU checkout abandonment down 70% • Average order value up 40% • 120% year-over-year revenue growth • Founders freed up to focus on new designs
